We are learning to know the stars
"I am grateful to God, because
He not only gave us the beauty of the stars
but also their mysteries."
Max Valier
The Planetarium at San Valentino in Campo
Sitting in a comfortable armchair, you can explore the galaxies, the infinity of space, and our solar system, in search of familiar or lesser known planets: the grand planetarium at San Valentino in Campo is home to our whole universe. Thanks to very precise instruments, a dome 8 metres in diameter, a special sound system and some ultramodern techniques, you can see some stupendous 3D images of our universe. From May to October, the “astro-villages” in the Cornedo area organise special dinners in tune with the stars. These so-called “full moon” evenings in our restaurant and other venues around Cornedo feature a range of genuine “space” delicacies!
Max Valier Astronomical Observatory
& Peter Anich Solar Observatory
While the planetarium presents us with a simulation of reality, at the “Max Valier” astronomical observatory at San Valentino in Campo you can scan the night sky through different telescopes in real time. The most important telescope at the one and only stellar observatory in South Tyrol is a Cassegrain mirror reflector, with a diameter of 80 cm and a collecting surface of incident light 10,000 times greater than that of the human eye. At the Peter Anich solar observatory, on the other hand, you can explore the solar system in more detail. Outside, there’s an interesting educational pathway on the theme of the planets, with lots of useful information about our planetary neighbours. Conclusion: a unique look at the fascinating world of the stars and definitely worth a visit!
